About GoDis

“I am what I paint and I paint what I am”
GoDis was born in Timisoara, Romania, where her early passion for painting emerged.
Encouraged by her parents, she pursued her artistic interests by attending an Art School, followed by Art High School, and ultimately the University of Art and Design in Timisoara, specialising in the painting department. Currently, GoDis has established herself in Belgium.
Art is the love through which we create and only through love we can unite light with darkness.
In her journey, GoDis came to the realisation that her sense of self was largely shaped by external influences — her parents and societal expectations. It became clear to her that true self-definition could only be achieved through art and imagination. Art provided her with a canvas to portray an authentic reality, one where she could truly be herself, for it is through authenticity that one can shape the life they desire.
The inspiration behind GoDis's work is deeply rooted in the spiritual quest for self-discovery. She believes that art serves as a gateway to the present moment, a realm where she simply exists as "I AM." In this space, the essence of her soul and entire being is revealed.
Her artistic journey began with a profound realisation: the act of creating a painting, something tangible she could touch, meant that she had the power to manifest her desires into reality. This realisation led her to paint everything she wished to embody within herself and her surroundings. Through the language of symbols, she found that her creations became a part of her, gradually materialising in her reality.
Thus, she embarked on a path of creating art with a manifesting intention, where the future she aspired to became her present reality.
With each stroke of her brush, GoDis consciously infuses her paintings with her essence and aspirations. She views painting as a deliberate act of choice, where she intentionally crafts her inner and outer experiences. While we often use the term "creation," she believes that everything already exists in the realm of imagination, waiting to be brought into material form. Painting, to her, is the conduit through which she bridges the gap between vision and reality, transforming her future into the present moment.
In her artistic practice, GoDis predominantly utilises oil paint, along with a mix of materials drawn from everyday life such as coffee (symbolising awakening), kitchen spices, spray paint, acrylics, and gold leaf. These materials serve as tools to reconnect the material dimension with the spiritual realm, creating a harmonious union within her work.
Her deepest desire is for her art to serve as a catalyst for others to embark on their own conscious journey of creating their reality.
Through her paintings, GoDis hopes to inspire individuals to delve into the essence of their true selves, consciously shaping the lives they envision.
Symbolism in her art
Symbolism is an artistic movement that conveys ideas through symbols, placing emphasis on the meanings behind forms, lines, shapes, and colours. Often considered at the forefront of modernism, it pioneered new, sometimes abstract, methods to express psychological truths. This movement posited that beyond the physical world, there exists a spiritual reality.
In essence, Symbolism represents subjects or ideas through the use of devices or motifs, creating layers of meaning beneath the surface. It appeals to the notion of the artist as a mystic or visionary, driven by the desire to express a reality that transcends superficial appearances.
